Nearly 200 student beneficiaries of the ICCP Group Foundation, Inc. (IGFI) Tulong Pambaon Project successfully completed School Year 2025–2026, marking another milestone for the employee-supported education initiative that has been helping children stay in school for more than a decade.

Many of the beneficiaries received academic recognition during year-end ceremonies, while others achieved perfect attendance throughout the school year—an accomplishment educators and parents attribute in part to the program’s consistent support for students’ daily school needs.

The results highlight the continuing impact of community-driven educational assistance programs in addressing barriers to school participation among children from underserved families.

Supporting School Attendance Through Small Daily Contributions

The Tulong Pambaon Project was launched in 2012 with a simple but powerful idea: encourage employees to contribute a small amount each day to help children stay in school.

Operating under the banner “P25 for a Cause,” the program enables ICCP Group employees to voluntarily donate ₱25 per day. The pooled contributions are then used to provide daily transportation and meal allowances to selected student beneficiaries.

For many families, transportation costs and daily food expenses remain significant challenges that can affect school attendance and academic performance. By helping cover these basic needs, the program seeks to reduce absenteeism and encourage students to complete their education.

Today, the program serves Grade 5 and Grade 6 students in adopted communities and partner public schools across selected barangays in Pampanga, Cebu, Batangas, and Cagayan de Oro.

Over the course of its implementation, the Tulong Pambaon Project is estimated to have reached approximately 1,200 students, helping young learners overcome financial obstacles that might otherwise disrupt their education.

Organized through the collaboration of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the annual nationwide competition serves as a platform for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to develop and present tourism-related programs and projects aligned with the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP).

The event showcased the growing role of student-led innovation in shaping the future of Philippine tourism, with winning proposals set to receive funding and implementation support under the Higher Education Development Fund (HEDF).

Leading the program were key government officials including CHED Chairperson Shirley C. Agrupis, DOT Undersecretary Verna Esmeralda C. Buensuceso, DOT Assistant Secretary Christine Joy E. Cari, and CHED Executive Director IV Cinderella Filipina S. Benitez-Jaro.

In her message, Agrupis underscored the importance of empowering students to create sustainable and technology-driven tourism solutions that address emerging industry challenges. Buensuceso, meanwhile, emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering tourism innovation through strategic partnerships between academe and industry stakeholders.

The ceremony featured networking sessions, project overviews, special performances from Bulacan State University, awarding of regional winners, and the announcement of the national winners from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. MOA signing ceremonies and photo opportunities with winning HEIs also formed part of the program.

This year’s national winners each received a P5 million project implementation grant to further develop and execute their tourism innovations.

The Luzon winner, Naga College Foundation Inc., was recognized for “Go Dare,” a tourism initiative aimed at enhancing destination engagement and travel experiences.

For the Visayas cluster, Siquijor State College won for “SiquiScan: Smart Destination Management System for Sustainable Tourism in the Island of Siquijor,” a digital platform focused on smart tourism management and sustainable destination practices.

Representing Mindanao, Ateneo de Davao University emerged victorious with “Kuyog — Find and Book Local Tour Guides,” a local travel companion and digital expo application designed to connect travelers with accredited tour guides and tourism experiences.

Regional winners from across the country also received P250,000 grants each, recognizing outstanding tourism concepts from participating HEIs. Among the recognized institutions were PHINMA – University of Pangasinan, Saint Mary’s University, Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite, Central Philippine University, Cebu Normal University, Bukidnon State University, University of the Cordilleras, and UP Asian Institute of Tourism, among others.

The event featured project presentations, innovation pitches, networking sessions, and discussions focusing on smart tourism, destination sustainability, digital transformation, and inclusive tourism development.
